Skwala Hatch is Underway
With a population in 2007 of 853 people, the town is a quiet one with spectacular scenery and fabulous fishing opportunities. Just minutes away are the East and the West Fork of the Bitterroot River, known for some of the finest fishing in the country. The Painted Rock State Park and reservoir, as well as other streams and lakes make Darby prime territory for the fishing enthusiast. With Brook Trout, Mountain Whitefish, Rainbow Trout, and Westslope Cutthroat Trout prevalent, Darby and its surrounding areas is the perfect fishing destination providing a once in a life time "Big Sky" experience.

Bitterroot River
The skwala hatch is in process, so the fishing is good right now. From its origins in the Pintlar Mountains and the southern Bitterroot Mountains, the Bitterroot River flows north through the towns of Sula, Darby, Hamilton, Stevensville, Florence and Missoula. Anglers enjoy days of catching primarily Westslope Cutthroat, Rainbow Trout and Brown Trout. It is common to see elk, deer, moose, Bald Eagles, Osprey, ducks, and other water birds. Fishing on the West Fork, the East Fork and the North Fork of the Bitterroot River is usually a day of bliss.

Whether you are visiting for business, family, fun, sports, or on vacation, you will discover a wonderful, little motel in a beautiful and historic community of Darby, situated on Highway 93, just one hour south from Missoula and 30 miles to the Idaho border.

Right in downtown Darby, the Mountain Spirit Inn is a clean and comfortable, family-owned motel. Darby is located in the beautiful Bitterroot Valley, which is in Ravalli County. Highway 93, also called Main Street through Darby, runs along the Lewis and Clark Trail. This scenic highway is also part of the Nez Perce Trail; it goes all the way from Canada to Mexico, and it is part of the TransAmerica Bicycle Path. The Mountain Spirit Inn is within close proximity to the Continental Divide Hiking Trail (CDT) and Lost Trail Powder Mountain Ski Area. This is beautiful country!
